Friends of The Downs
We’re proud of our community spirit here at The Downs Malvern and believe it’s integral to our children thriving at this extraordinary school.
For the duration of the time that your child attends The Downs, as parents and guardians, you are automatically a member of the Friends of the Downs. We hope you will find that getting involved helps you to integrate into our community quickly and effectively. Our main aims are to:
- Provide opportunities for the whole school community to connect.
- Fundraise for charities and for projects to enhance the school environment.
- Run the onsite Second-Hand Uniform Shop (an invaluable resource).
Whilst your child is making new friends at school, the Friends of the Downs offers an opportunity for you to do the same!
Before your Child starts at The Downs Malvern:
As part on the joining process, School will provide you with the contact details for the Parent Ambassador linked to the year group that your child will join. Please reach out to them directly, so they can welcome you and invite you to join the year group specific WhatsApp group, to share and receive helpful information and reminders.
Your Parent Ambassador will be a great source of informal know-how about the school – particularly useful during the Summer Holidays when the school is closed!
When your Child starts at The Downs Malvern
Our Parent Ambassador can guide you through your first year with reminders and information where necessary, such as uniform requirements for specific events.
While your Child attends The Downs Malvern:
Come along to our whole school social events – sometimes with your child and sometimes without.
You may want to volunteer to get involved and help at one of our social events, or be a Parent Ambassador, or help in another way, such as join our committee. These are all great ways to meet new people and support the school.
Friends of the Downs Committee:
Our core committee includes a Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Social Media Rep, Second Hand Shop Rep, Railway Liaison and a few Ordinary Members. These are the roles that plan the social events that, bring everyone together and, raise funds for school enhancements (to improve the environment and opportunities for our children in ways that go beyond the school budget). Tenure for these roles is a maximum of 2 years.
Our committee members also represent each year group (in a role that we have named ‘Parent Ambassador’). This tenure follows the academic year and provides support to both new and existing parents, in their year, with helpful information and informal reminders.
Events:
Throughout the year we run a series of events that bring us together and we could not run these without wider help from our parent community.
