Welcome to 'The Warren', our Boarding House, with views across the orchard and the Malvern Hills.

Thanks to a recent first-class upgrade, we have fantastic new dormitories of four to eight beds, smart new shower and washroom facilities and Games and TV rooms, providing all with a real ‘home-from-home’ experience

Welcome to our Boarding House

Boarding at The Downs Malvern offers a vibrant and welcoming home from home to boys and girls who are full, weekly and flexi boarders. Dorms have between 4 and 8 beds, and children share a dorm with boarders of a similar age.

The recently refurbished common rooms are light, bright and well-equipped communal spaces where the boys and girls meet each evening to chat, play games, email or phone home or have a snack before bed. Facilities include pool, table tennis and table football, two TVs and DVD players, 6 computers, a large kitchen, tables and chairs for craft and board games and lots of sofas for lounging!

The boarders also make full use of the wonderful grounds and school facilities during the evenings and weekends: games in the sports hall, free time on the adventure playground, apple picking in the orchard, cricket and football on Brock meadow, tennis on the courts, instrumental practice in the Music School, and even walks on the Malvern Hills… boarders are rarely bored!

The sense of community is very strong in the Boarding House. The children mix and socialise throughout the week and enjoy each other’s company in the evenings and weekends. We focus particularly on kindness and consideration towards others, respect and tolerance, empathy and forgiveness. Expectations are clear and consistent, with wellbeing and happiness for the whole boarding community at the heart of all that we do.

John teaches History and Boys’ Games, and Sarah teaches French. They have worked in Prep School boarding for about 20 years.

“From our first visit to the school and Boarding House, we were struck by the friendliness and enthusiasm of both children and staff and were bowled over by the stunning location, which has to be one of the most inspiring places to live and work in the country.

We live in the main building with our two children, Sam and Jess, and our Cocker Spaniels, Max and Freddie. We very much enjoy working alongside the experienced, dedicated and talented boarding team. Our door is always open for children, parents and colleagues.

We encourage you to visit the boarding house and chat to boarders, and look forward to welcoming you into our home.”
