Self-expression and the ability to communicate with confidence are crucial tools for life

Our Music and Drama Departments have an enviable reputation and the quality is consistently high. We believe that all children benefit from the skills they learn in Drama and we pride ourselves on the control and confidence of their acting and public speaking. Drama is taught as part of the English curriculum, which provides the stimulus for some of the activities.

At the Downs Malvern Drama is where the magic begins. We ensure that every child in the school has the opportunity to perform in front of an audience throughout the academic year.

The Drama curriculum allows children the opportunity to grow in confidence and independence as they develop their theatrical skills. Pupils in both Pre Prep and prep school explore and engage with a wide variety of texts, in a bid to create a passion for drama that extends beyond the realm of the classroom.

We are thrilled to be able to give pupils a chance to perform in a major production each year. Years 3-5 children can select to take part in the Junior Production in the Summer Term and pupils in years 6-8 are able to perform in the Senior Production, play or musical, in the Lent Term. There are also many opportunities to take to the stage in class assemblies, drama activities and within the public speaking and debating forum.

Alongside curriculum drama, which is offered to years 1-7, pupils can take part in activities and can attend private lessons with a specialist  Drama teacher, who prepares the students for LAMDA exams (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art), as well as teaching Speech and Drama.
