We were delighted to host our inaugural Under 9 Rugby Festival this week, welcoming five local primary schools for a fantastic afternoon of rugby on Main Games. Teams from Suckley, Colwall, Lugwardine, Eastnor and Ashperton joined our own pupils for a closely contested competition, with some excellent rugby played and plenty of determination and teamwork on display. Congratulations to Suckley, who finished level on points with TDM but claimed the trophy by scoring more tries, with 34 to our 30. A huge thank you to all the visiting schools for helping make our first festival such an enjoyable occasion. We look forward to welcoming you back next year! #thedownsmalvern #independentschool #rugbyfestival #colwall #malvern #herefordshire #worcestershire

The Memo Hall was filled with music again last week for our annual Inter-House Singing Competition! This year's competition on the theme of colours, saw Morgan House singing Red, Red Robin, Sanger performing Green Green Grass, Lewis taking on Mr Blue Sky and Cadbury delivering Yellow Submarine. Last but certainly not least, our Pre-Prep children joined the fun with a lovely performance of Who Put the Colours in the Rainbow. There were brilliant performances throughout, but it was Lewis House who impressed our adjudicator to claim this year's title! A special thank you to our adjudicator, professional singer and choral conductor Amy Alden, for her insightful feedback, and to Malvern College's Johnathan Brown and James Ramm for their support. #thedownsmalvern #independentschool #singingcompetition #malverncollege

What would a superhero see if they flew over Colwall? That was the question on the minds of our Year 1 and 2 pupils as they headed into the village recently, exploring their topic, 'What Makes a Hero Super?' The children enjoyed spotting the different buildings and amenities that make up their local community, before stopping for a well-earned hot chocolate on the way back to school! Back in the classroom, they put their newfound knowledge to good use, plotting their route on a simple map and beginning to explore the symbols used to represent different landmarks. A lovely way to bring their classroom learning to life. #thedownsmalvern #colwall #outdoorlearning #learningbeyondtheclassroom

Kindness is one of our core values, and this week we've been celebrating it through the NSPCC's Kindness Challenge! Today, pupils in 7KR paid a special visit to Reception during their reading session, sharing stories about kindness and friendship through David McKee's much-loved Elmer books. The Year 7s enjoyed themselves so much that they've already asked if they can visit every Friday! Elsewhere, Henry led his fellow pupils in 8LR on a mission to brighten people's days, handing out little ducks to anyone who looked as though they might need a lift. A lovely reminder that even the smallest gestures can make a difference. #thedownsmalvern #nspcc #kindness

There was plenty of competitive spirit on display last weekend as our Year 7 and 8 girls took to the astro for our U13 Hockey Super Cup! Divided into four evenly matched teams, the Tigers, Cheetahs, Wildcats and Foxes battled it out in a lively round-robin tournament, with some fantastic hockey played throughout. Congratulations to the Tigers (Yellow), who emerged as this year's Super Cup champions! The competition continues this Saturday with the U11 version of the Super Cup, featuring four teams named after similarly impressive animals: Lionesses, Cougars, Wolves and Panthers! #thedownsmalvern #hockey #prepschoolsport #hockeytournament #girlsinsport

Our boarders made the most of the unseasonably warm weather last weekend with a trip to Drayton Manor Theme Park! A much-anticipated annual highlight in the boarding calendar, the trip was a great opportunity to let off some steam and enjoy the friendships that are such an important part of boarding life. This weekend, attention turns firmly to autumn, with pumpkin carving, biscuit decorating, conkers and a Halloween disco to round things off. Busy times for our boarders! #thedownsmalvern #boardingschool #draytonmanor #independentschool #friendship

It has been a fantastic few days for cross country at TDM, with our runners representing the school superbly! At the Worcestershire West School Games Inter-School Year 5 & 6 Cross Country Championships, both boys and girls put in a fantastic effort, with the girls producing some outstanding results. Darcy, Frankie, Poppy and Meryn all finished inside the top six in the Year 5 race, while our Year 6 girls completed a remarkable clean sweep of the podium, with Flora taking 1st place, Lizzie 2nd and Bea 3rd. We're delighted to report that the success continued at Winterfold House School yesterday, where our U11 girls won the team shield. In the U13 competition, Elsie produced a brilliant run to win the girls’ race, with the U13 girls’ team also securing an excellent 2nd place overall. A huge well done to all of our runners who have represented TDM with such determination and enthusiasm over the past few days! #thedownsmalvern #crosscountry #schoolsport #running #competitiverunning

Our Summer DT projects are always hugely popular, and this year's challenge asked our Prep School pupils to design and build a Rube Goldberg machine: a wonderfully over-engineered contraption in which one chain reaction triggers the next to complete a simple task. The brief was to create at least five chain reactions using household objects, use as many different processes as possible and bring plenty of creativity and practical problem-solving to the challenge. The submissions were incredibly inventive, with pupils making full use of the space available at home and finding imaginative ways to keep each reaction moving. Our overall winner was Taiki, whose ambitious, large-scale dog treat dispensing machine was built at home in Japan. The project was judged by Mr Warlow and Malvern College’s Director of Art and Design, Mr Stokes, who praised Taiki for the scale of his design and the outstanding sequence of chain reactions that brought the whole thing together. Huge congratulations to Taiki, and very well done to everyone who took part! #thedownsmalvern #independentschool #designtechnology #rubegoldberg #malverncollege

Glorious sunshine provided the perfect backdrop yesterday for a brilliant afternoon of sports fixtures at TDM! Main Games was busy with some excellent rugby as our 1st and 2nd senior teams faced Wycliffe Prep, while the U10s and U11s took on The Elms. On the Astro, our 2nd and 3rd girls’ hockey teams enjoyed a series of fast-paced and exciting matches against Winterfold House. It was a brilliant afternoon of sport, with some closely contested matches and excellent sportsmanship on display throughout. Fixtures play an important role in sport at TDM, helping pupils develop teamwork and confidence, and we would like to thank Wycliffe Prep, The Elms and Winterfold House for an excellent afternoon of competition. #thedownsmalvern #independentschool #competition #teamwork #schoolsports
