Forest School

Our 55-acre campus is situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Well-resourced and idyllic, it is the perfect environment for children to connect with nature.

Building shelters, splashing through puddles, enjoying a campfire and exploring the natural world. This is what Forest School is all about.

Our Forest School site is set in a native broadleaf woodland with winding pathways running through the trees and a stream flowing down from the Malvern Hills. Located within the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it is a beautiful environment for children to learn about and explore the natural world around them.

There’s something for everyone at The Downs and children are taught that life is full of so much more than simply facts in textbooks.

We strive to create a sense of discovery and adventure for each and every child. Forest School promotes the holistic development of children, enabling them to direct their own learning, through curiosity and exploration in a multi-sensory way. This promotes a deep connection with the natural world around them and the wider world beyond. Life is full of risks, both real and perceived, and at The Downs Malvern children learn to assess and respond to risk in a carefully managed environment. Led by a qualified Forest School Leader, the sessions run throughout the year and offer an abundance of ways in which the children can develop emotionally, socially and intellectually.

Spending time in nature is beneficial for both physical and emotional well-being and, in our beautiful setting amongst the trees, children have a wonderful time working together on practical activities such as bushcraft skills and cooking around the basecamp fire pit.
