A scholarship is a financial award that recognises and supports children with particular ability or potential. Unlike a bursary, a scholarship award is not means-tested.
At The Downs Malvern, we offer 11+ Scholarships to external pupils currently in Year 6 who will join us in Year 7. Awards are available in the following areas:
These scholarships for prep schools provide opportunities for children to further develop their talents, benefit from specialist teaching, and contribute as role models within our school community. Many scholars also go on to achieve further awards at 13+ when moving to their senior school, including Malvern College.
External pupils currently in Year 6, from any school background, may apply for an 11+ Scholarship.
Each scholarship has its own criteria. More information can be found below.
We are looking for candidates who not only show ability but also demonstrate commitment and keen interest in their chosen field, the potential to achieve further awards at 13+, and the willingness to act as role models who inspire others in our school community.
The process varies slightly depending on the scholarship field but typically includes submission of supporting material (e.g. portfolio, references, performance history), followed by assessments such as examinations, auditions, interviews, or practical sessions.
All successful candidates will be expected to maintain their commitment to their chosen field throughout Years 7 and 8 and to act as positive ambassadors within the school.
Applications for our 11+ prep school scholarships close on Monday 5 January 2026, with assessments taking place at The Downs Malvern on Friday 23 January 2026. To request an application form or find out more, please contact our Admissions Team on (01684) 544108 or registrar@thedownsmalvern.org.uk

A limited number of means-tested bursaries are available to families who require a degree of financial aid for their child to attend the school. There is no fixed amount, and awards are based entirely on individual family circumstances and the funds available.
As one of a small number of prep schools offering financial aid to eligible families, we are committed to making our education as inclusive and accessible as possible.
