FAQs

What types of extra-curricular activities are available in Pre-Prep?

Children in our Pre-Prep have access to a generous mix of extra-curricular activities that sit naturally alongside their classroom learning. They enjoy music, sport, swimming, Forest School, art, dance and a variety of clubs that allow them to try new things and build confidence. These activities are designed to be fun, age-appropriate and enriching, giving pupils plenty of opportunities to explore their interests and develop new skills.

Are extra-curricular activities included in the school day?

Yes, many activities are integrated into the school day, ensuring that all pupils benefit from a balanced experience of academic learning and co-curricular enrichment.

How do you encourage and support children in trying new activities?

We support children by giving them the confidence to have a go and the reassurance that trying something new is part of growing. Teachers encourage pupils gently, celebrate small steps and make sure activities are introduced in a way that feels fun and accessible. Because classes are small, staff can spot when a child needs a little nudge or a bit of extra support, helping them build confidence as they discover new interests.

Are the activities tailored to different age groups?

Yes. Activities are planned with each age group in mind so they feel achievable, engaging and appropriately challenging. Younger children enjoy gentler, play-based experiences, while older pupils are offered broader opportunities as their confidence and skills grow. This ensures every child can take part, make progress and enjoy what they’re doing.

Is there a focus on outdoor learning and adventure?

Yes. Outdoor learning and a sense of adventure run through life at The Downs Malvern. Pupils make full use of our 55-acre campus, taking their learning into woodland, fields and open spaces, as well as our smallholding and market garden. Whether through Forest School, caring for animals, planting and growing, or exploring the grounds, children build confidence, resilience and a genuine enjoyment of being outdoors.

How do these activities support my child’s development?

Outdoor learning and hands-on activities help children grow in confidence, learn to work with others and become more independent. Time spent exploring the grounds, caring for animals or planting and growing also supports wellbeing and builds curiosity, which feeds positively into their learning back in the classroom.
