Studying abroad is a transformative experience. Our boarding community offers a supportive environment & the best of a British education.

Studying abroad is one of the most enriching and transformative experiences that a family can provide.

At The Downs Malvern, we are immensely proud of our diverse and vibrant boarding community, which welcomes children from a wide variety of locations throughout the world. We offer full boarding from Years 3 to 8 (ages 7 to 13).

There are many reasons why children choose to study in the UK; for some, it provides the opportunity to experience a different culture, improve their level of English and make new friends, whilst, for others, it provides a pathway to UK senior schools and beyond. However, regardless of their motivations, all children at The Downs Malvern will receive a welcoming, supportive and inspiring environment, and experience the best of a British education. We accept applications at any time during the academic year, and we are delighted to receive overseas enquiries from agents or directly from parents.

Situated on the western edge of the Malvern Hills, our location provides a peaceful, safe and idyllic rural location in the village of Colwall, yet with direct local trains to London and Birmingham, and the M5 and M50 motorways within a 10-mile drive. Malvern College, our associated senior school for pupils aged 13 to 18, is situated a short distance away (approximately 7 minutes by car), and most of our children progress to the College in Year 9, where the transition is seamless.

All children at The Downs Malvern will receive a welcoming, supportive and inspiring environment, and experience the very best of a British education.

The Admissions Process
Step One – Enquiry

The first step is to complete the Enquiry Form.

Share details of your child with us by completing our Enquiry Form, sending us an email registrar@malverncollege.org.uk or calling us on +44 (0)1684 544 100.

You will also be asked to share your child’s last two school reports and a copy of their passport.

Step Two – Visit Us

We understand that this may be more difficult to visit in-person if you are overseas. If you are unable to experience The Downs first-hand with either a personalised tour of the campus to meet staff and pupils, or attend one of our Open Days then we can arrange a video call with our Headmaster, Andy Nuttall.

This informal interview allows prospective pupils and parents to ask questions about life at The Downs Malvern and learn about the academic and extracurricular opportunities available. Whilst overseas pupils are encouraged to visit in person for a Boarding Experience, we appreciate this may not be feasible for all.

Step Three – Registration

Our Admissions team will invite you to Register your child with us, which is completed online.

All pupils registering with The Downs Malvern can automatically be registered (at no additional cost) with our Senior School, Malvern College. If your child is applying to join us in Year 7 or Year 8, your child will be invited to complete testing for continuation onto our Senior School, Malvern College at the appropriate time.

Step Four – Offer

Once all elements of the admissions process have been completed, successful applicants will then be offered a place. Upon accepting an offer, applicants submit the Acceptance Form along with the required documents and payment of the Acceptance Deposit to secure a place at the school.

Waiting lists are sometimes in operation; where this is the case our team will ensure you are kept up to date with likely enrolment dates.

If a Child Student Visa is required, our UKVI Compliance Officer will assist with the process, in conjunction with Sable International, Immigration Specialists. A charge is applicable for this service.

*Please note that all international pupils are required to have a UK-based Guardian who must be instructed in advance of the pupil’s start date.
