Chelsea Football Club X The Downs Malvern

The Midlands' first Chelsea Football Club development programme.

A world-class football programme. An outstanding education.

The Chelsea Football Club Development Programme at The Downs Malvern offers boys and girls in Years 7 and 8 the opportunity to develop their football within the supportive and enriching environment at our award-winning prep school. Building upon the coaching methodology of Chelsea FC, the programme combines specialist football development with an outstanding education, helping pupils grow as players and learners.

Designed as a development programme rather than a full-time football academy, pupils remain fully immersed in every aspect of school life, benefiting from excellent teaching, exceptional pastoral care, extra-curricular opportunities and the vibrant community that defines The Downs Malvern.

More than football

At The Downs Malvern, football development forms part of a broader educational journey. The programme has been carefully designed to support pupils’ sporting ambitions while ensuring they continue to enjoy the rich and varied experiences that are fundamental to a preparatory school education.

Through specialist coaching, individual support and opportunities to develop confidence, resilience and teamwork, pupils are encouraged to build strong foundations both on and off the pitch.

A football development programme within a broader education

Pupils accepted onto the programme will benefit from a structured programme designed to support their development both on and off the pitch. A partnership with history. A pathway for the future.

The connection between the Malvern College Family of Schools and Chelsea Football Club stretches back generations.

The Mears family, founders and owners of Chelsea Football Club until the early 1980s, have strong historic links with Malvern College, with generations of the family educated at the College.

Today, that shared history forms part of a new partnership between Chelsea FC and the Malvern College Family of Schools, creating exciting opportunities for pupils across both the prep and senior schools to develop their footballing skills alongside their education.
