Provisional Itinerary

  • 9.10-10.00 – Story-Led Classroom Activities
Children and parents will take part in a carousel of engaging, story-led activities across our Pre-Prep classrooms. Each room is centred around a classic children’s book, brought to life through creative and interactive experiences that support early literacy, confidence and imagination:

    • ReceptionThe Hungry Caterpillar
A hands-on, sensory session exploring counting, colours and simple storytelling through playful, curiosity-led activities.
    • Year 1We’re Going on a Bear Hunt
A lively, movement-based experience where children step into the story through rhythm, repetition and imaginative play, building confidence and communication skills.
    • Year 2The Lost Words
A calm, nature-inspired session encouraging curiosity, vocabulary development and a deeper connection to the natural world.

Families are encouraged to move between classrooms, experiencing each activity and gaining a feel for the progression through Pre-Prep, as children grow in independence and enthusiasm for learning.

  • 10.00-10.10 – Refreshments and Transition
Guests gather in the Pre-Prep area for a short break. Children can enjoy fruit, water, squash and flapjacks, while adults are invited to take a coffee to go before heading outdoors – mirroring the natural rhythm of the school day.
  • 10.10-11.00 – Forest School Experience*
Families will walk together to our Forest School, offering a glimpse into the outdoor learning that is an integral part of life at The Downs Malvern.
Children will take part in a selection of short, guided activities designed to encourage exploration, resilience and creativity in a natural setting. These may include creating a story stick, taking part in a nature hunt, or a mini-beast hunt – all helping to foster independence, problem-solving and a love of the outdoors.
  • 11.00 – A Chance to Reflect and Ask Questions
The morning draws to a close at Forest School, with time to speak with staff, ask any final questions and reflect on the experience before heading home.

*Don’t forget to bring wellies, waterproofs/puddle-suits and a warm change of clothing!
