The Downs Malvern wins STEM Project of the Year

The Downs Malvern is delighted to have been named STEM Project of the Year at the Worcestershire Education Awards.

The award recognises the school’s approach to STEM, where learning is embedded across school life and brought to life through hands-on, real-world experiences.

A standout feature of STEM at The Downs is its integration across all aspects of school life, from engineering projects and robotics to the historic Downs Light Railway, offering pupils unique opportunities to develop practical skills and confidence as problem solvers. The school also works closely with local partners including Malvern College and Morgan Motor Company, strengthening meaningful links within the county and bringing real-world engineering and technology to life.

Headmaster Andy Nuttall commented:
“Our approach to STEM at The Downs is rooted in making learning purposeful, practical and connected to the world around us. Our setting in the Malvern countryside provides a unique backdrop for this, from the Downs Light Railway to outdoor problem-solving and exploration. We are proud to work with partners such as Malvern College and Morgan Motor Company, and to welcome pupils from across Worcestershire primary schools to take part in our science exploration days and maths challenges. These experiences help bring STEM to life and inspire curiosity well beyond the classroom.”

Malvern College was also delighted to see Justin Major, Director of Co-Curriculum and Character, named as a finalist in the Teacher of the Year category. Justin’s dedication, leadership and commitment to holistic education have had a profound impact on generations of pupils, both in and beyond the classroom.

Both schools are immensely proud to be recognised at a county level and extend warm congratulations to all finalists and winners.
