The Downs Malvern Earns National Recognition for Innovation and Compassion

The Downs Malvern continues to shine on the national stage, with recent award nominations celebrating the school’s distinctive approach to education and pupil wellbeing. The school has been named a finalist in the Animal Support Champion category of the School House Awards, recognising its long-standing commitment to animal welfare and outdoor learning.

As the reigning Small Independent School of the Year, Independent School of the Year Awards 2024, The Downs has built a reputation for nurturing curiosity and responsibility through hands-on experiences. Pupils regularly care for rare breed animals including pigs, sheep, and guinea fowl – an initiative inspired by Headmaster Andy Nuttall’s background in Zoology. His expertise has helped shape a curriculum rich in nature-based learning and unique extra-curricular opportunities.

This year, The Downs also received the Excellence in STEM award from lifestyle platform Muddy Stilettos, highlighting the school’s dedication to science, technology, engineering and mathematics. These accolades reflect the school’s holistic approach to education, blending academic rigour with creativity and compassion.

Meanwhile, sister school Malvern College has also enjoyed a wave of recognition, including a finalist spot in the Independent School of the Year Awards and a win in the Outdoor Pursuits category of The Week’s Best of the Best Awards. Malvern College student Chloe M was named a Rising Star for her charitable work in Uganda and Headmaster Keith Metcalfe was shortlisted for TES Headteacher of the Year.

Together, the Malvern family of schools continues to demonstrate excellence across a wide spectrum of educational values – from leadership and innovation to inclusivity and global citizenship.
