We’re delighted to share the news that our charity concert has raised an incredible £12,000 for the MacMillan Renton Unit at Hereford County Hospital.
The concert was organised in honour of former teacher Stéphanie Ingram, who recently received treatment at the unit. Stéphanie taught at The Downs Malvern for 24 years and remains a much-loved member of our school community.
The evening brought together current and former pupils, parents, staff and alumni for a moving celebration of music and community spirit, with one of the highlights being a performance by a 120-strong mass choir, made up of former pupils and staff.
Head of Creative Arts Lesley Hunter, who led the musical arrangements and coordinated the performances, said:
“We were overwhelmed by the success of the concert. We played to a packed hall and raised an incredible sum.
We put out an appeal for performers and almost 80 singers returned to take part. Some hadn’t sung in a choir since they were pupils, while others had gone on to study music, so it was a wonderful mix. The choir only rehearsed for the first time that afternoon, and they did an incredible job!”
In addition to the concert, more than 30 local businesses donated prizes for a raffle, and The Downs Malvern’s sister school, Malvern College, contributed generously through their Race the Sun fundraising challenge.
On Friday, Lesley and Stéphanie visited the MacMillan Renton Unit to present the team with a cheque for the full amount raised.
