What are the essential ingredients of a first-class education?

To us, it is knowing and understanding every child in our care, recognising their strengths and weaknesses, celebrating their achievements and providing them with the resources to reach their full potential - at whatever stage they start here.

The stunning setting for our school is 55 acres of the glorious Malvern Hills: a safe, secure and unspoilt environment where children can learn, play, develop and grow.

Our strong academic programme, achieved with small classes and exceptional teachers, delivers results that stand alongside the best in the prep world, and each year our pupils go on to excel at top schools all around the country – many with scholarships. Many have gone on to distinguish themselves in a host of different fields: world-renowned writers such as CS Lewis and WH Auden have taught at The Downs, and Nobel Laureates have studied here.

To provide a rounded, enriching education we also nurture those whose talents lie in other directions, including music, drama, art and sport. Our arts and sporting facilities are exceptional and offer every child the chance to express themselves and to shine.

What makes us special?

Location

The Downs Malvern is located on the beautiful western side of the Malvern Hills within a stunning 55-acre campus. We provide our children with a safe, secure and caring environment and the spacious grounds give them every opportunity to thrive and enhance their learning.

Academics

Outstanding teaching ensures that some of the highest results in the country are achieved. Our facilities, including the junior and senior Science laboratories and newly refurbished classrooms, together with low class sizes, give all of our children the best opportunity to succeed.

Boarding

Boarding at The Downs Malvern offers all children the perfect ‘home-from-home’ experience. ‘The Warren’, our Boarding House, with its fantastic, refurbished dormitories, Games Room and TV room, as well as the grounds in which it stands, is a familiar and welcoming place in which boarders can spend time at the end of their school day. Mr and Mrs Warlow, together with the Matrons, Mandy and Teresa, are always there for the boarders, to chat with them and to lend their support and advice.

Pastoral Care

Pastoral care is of paramount importance at the school. Our staff ensure that the happiness and the safety of each and every one of our children are at the forefront of what they do. Their priority is to get to know and understand each child’s needs and each child’s character.

Extra-Curricular

The Downs Malvern is not just about an academic experience and, to accompany and enhance the academic programme, a large number and variety of extra-curricular activities are offered. Our ‘Hobbies’ and ‘Activities’ choices ensure that all children can find something in which they can excel and, most importantly, that they enjoy.

Creative Arts are also a huge feature of life here at the school. Art, Drama, Music and Design Technology are all part of the curriculum and are further enhanced by our extra-curricular programme, where children are given the chance to learn new things and nurture existing skills.

In addition, a significant focus is given to Sport at The Downs Malvern. We offer a wide variety of sports and each child has the opportunity to represent the school in regular weekly fixtures.
