Drama is very popular at The Downs Malvern!

It is taught as part of the English curriculum, which provides the stimulus for some of the activities. We believe that all children benefit from the skills they learn in Drama and we pride ourselves on the control and confidence of their acting and public speaking. There are many opportunities for this: every week, they present reports for sport and other activities in assembly; our Form Assemblies; our annual House Poetry Competition, involving all children in Years 3 to 8; the Malvern College Prep Schools' Debating Competition, calling for self-assured, persuasive speakers, and of course, our annual drama production, which usually involves between 70 and 100 pupils in a variety of roles.

As well as class Drama, we also have a Speech and Drama specialist who offers private lessons. Many children across the year groups take up this popular option. These children are able to enter for LAMDA awards if they wish and achieve excellent results. They are also very successful in local festivals and competitions and they perform presentations to the whole school at least once a year. Our specialist also guides those in Year 8 who wish to enter for a Drama Award to their Senior School and many pupils from The Downs Malvern achieve these awards every year.
